- [OS and browsers]
-
- : That kind of response is - so what? they have good browsers, but the
- :whole fucking OS sucks.
-
- WHICH OS? JUST LIKE on Amigas, you can run different OS's on an Intel box.
- Are you going to say that Linux and NetBSD suck? Well gee, the Amiga must
- suck too, then.
-
-
- [Graphics cards]
-
- :>NOW they are still quite expensive. NOW is what's important to someone who
- :>needs a computer NOW. Not two or three years from now.
-
- : Won't be 2 or 3 years, next Amiga will allow cheaper PC grafix cards.
-
- I'll beleive that AT will incorporate real RTG and support inexpensive
- graphics cards when I see it. As of now, that is *not* the case. And how
- do we mix this support with supporting the existing base of Amiga software?
- Or do we abandon the entire existing userbase for this new (and more than
- likely EXPENSIVE) Amiga?
-
- :>The point he was trying to make (and it's a valid one) was that you can get
- :>a pretty loaded PC for the same amount of green you'd need to spend on a
- :>pretty bare A4000T. It's just a fact of life now.
-
- : And you have to keep loading the PC to get what the Amgia comes with.
-
- You can run to just about any store that sells electronics and buy that
- "loaded PC" with everything installed and ready to run. So what if the
- graphics chips are on the motherboard or not? (Did you know some PC's have
- "built-in" graphics chips? :) )
-
- : Not that hard, maybe, but stupid. Computers are supposed to be
- :automatic, they are made of millions of switches - so why do you have to flip
- :some to get the damn hardware to work?
-
- Gee, you have to do that to Amiga expansions too - especially when you
- install multiple HD's - try using an Amiga with two SCSI devices set to the
- same number. :) Try using just about any computer without flipping the
- power switch to the "on" position... :)
-
- I had to change switch settings on my printer to get it to work with the
- Amiga as well. :)
-
- :>You won't get Descent on an Amiga without a serious hit in system
- :>performance. Assuming Descent was actually made for Amigas, of course.
- :>But there are only two or three commercial games I own that don't shut down
- :>the OS completely anyway, so I'm not sure what point you're making. Even a
- :>lot of the PD/SW stuff I've seen blocks you from using workbench as well.
-
- : Point I was getting at was MEM space.
-
- ... in the era when most PC's are equipped with upwards of 8 megabytes, it
- doesn't really matter as much. The A1200, as far as I know, still comes
- with 2 megs of chip RAM. Without fast RAM, it's dog-slow too. :)
